How to end smoothly the week in Turin?
Don’t make any other plans for Sunday night and let’s take part in a live concert up on the SAMO’s terrace.
Calista Records is delighted to present Kevin Johnston and his band ‘The Bright Silence’ at the SAMO’s Terrace in Turin, on Sunday the 4th of September, at the time when the sun sets.
“Kevin comes from Colorado but we met him in Hamburg with his band ‘The Bright Silence’ ” says Calista Records crew. “We fell in love with his music: an astonishing singer with a unique vocal range, the classy composer that can fire the stage up − he’s an energetic musician with an outstanding creativity and passion.”
Kevin Johnston was born in Colorado (USA) to a family of theater performers and teachers – he was on stage for the first time at age 8 singing opera and musical theater. Since then he moved to Brooklyn for 10 years pursuing a singer-songwriter career. He formed Bright Silence 8 years ago w/ now a member of Chet Faker, Troye Sivan, and Twin Shadow. During this period he has performed month-long 10 part polyphonic song working with Kjartan Sweinsson from Sigur Ros, has toured Europe 4 times, performed a tribute to Prince at Red Rocks Amphitheater and has just released the second Bright Silence record “TIME IS NEW”.
BandWagon Magazine’s Ryan Murphy analyses the new record as:
” ‘Time Is New’ wastes no time engaging ear drums, proffering the powerful ‘Least Resistance’ from the outset. The tidy two and a half minute vignette of galloping drums, ascending choral melodies, and almost western portamento guitars evoke golden rolling hills and the whimsy of middle America. […] The rest of the album follows the path blazed by its opener, layering clever effects-laden guitars, dense synth pads, and big sing-along choirs that frequently lift ‘Time Is New’ into pure moments of rapture. ”
This new album has been produced by Alex Lipsen (Nada Surf, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), mixed by Dan Long (We Are Augustines, Local Natives), mastered by Ryan Smith (Adele, Beyoncé, Coldplay). Band on the album: Kirk Schoenherr (Chet Faker, Skaters) Tim Lappin (Chet Faker) Zach Jones (Sting, A Great Big World).
«TIME IS NEW it’s an attempt to bridge the gap between a rock show and my more intimate sets» − says Johnston.
